Our Winter Picnic

Last Saturday I decided we would shorten the length of out to do list and take advantage of the newly fallen snow.  It was a very bright sunny day and I knew the snow wasn't going to last, so we made plans to tackle the hills and go sledding. As we were packing up to leave, our Girl Scout Cookies arrived!  I thought to myself...what better way to enjoy Girl Scout Cookies than at a picnic in the park (even if the park is covered in snow)!  So in the bag they went and off we went with a big "Tally Ho".  We ventured up the Provo Canyon to the south fork turn off and ended up at the park we usually go to for sledding.  Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the park...brain space...!  When we got there the gate was closed, so the boys and I set off on foot to find a decent hill to shred!  Daddy took a brief, but much needed nap with "cute" in the car while we scouted...We found a spot close by that was undisturbed (and bonus! right next to a picnic table) and the boys set to making tracks.  I went back to the car to wake the sleeping beauties and collect our picnic items.  Isabelle (looking very responsible in her new turquoise snowsuit...thanks grandpa!) hitched a ride in an inflatable tube and we met up with the boys....
In hind sight, we should have picked a hill that wasn't quite so steep and didn't end in a ravine.  (Next time daddy gets to help pick the spot!)  Morgan had two near death experiences that afternoon.  (And, next time he will be required to wear a helmet!)  The kid is crazy!  He prefers to go down the hill laying in the sled with arms and legs inside the "vehicle" at all times.  (Yes he is very responsible too!)  However, when  sledding straight down a hill, keeping arms and legs out help one to steer and to control speed.  Not MoJo...straight and fast is how he prefers it.  Luckily, and I mean, someone was looking out for that sweet little guy, we escaped with no major injuries, just a bruised ego...After one of his daredevil acts, Morgan needed some recovery time, so he joined Isabelle and I at the table for a drink and a cookie.  After eating a Tagalong cookie (the peanut butter ones) Morgan said he magically felt better.  "This peanut butter cookie is like magic mom!  I feel all better!"  Well, thank goodness for Girl Scout Cookies!

Marshall blazed the first trail, and daddy helped to extend it by going further up the hill.  Marshall also enjoyed practicing some photography skills and looking after little sister.  Unfortunately, my camera ran out of batteries in the first two minutes, so I have no documentation of the daredevil acts of the day.  But it was a good day...the weather was beautiful, the snow was fun and we all survived.  Oh, and the cookies were delicious!

Ideas,,,

To keep soil in the tire, someone suggested using a screen or something similar to allow for drainage.
